Fish and Wildlife

Virginia wildlife is abundant on the Northern Neck Virginia.

Whether you like to watch or photograph wildlife, hunt or fish, there are many types of wild animals and sea creatures in our forests and waters.

The rural character of the Northern Neck makes it possible for people and animals in the wild to co-exist.

And our mild climate and abundant forests provide plenty of natural food and cover for VA wildlife.

Fish and Wildlife
Northern Neck Virginia

Many people are drawn to the Northern Neck because of its fish and wildlife.

In fact, fishing is one of the most popular activities. There are even fishing clubs for those who are fishing enthusiasts.

And, of course, there are fishing tournaments for competitive fishermen.

Here are a few of the animals in the wild that you might see here:

  • Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs - Also known as Maryland Blue Crabs (even though they are NOT exclusive to Maryland!), the blue crab is not too smart—and lots of fun to catch!
  • Fishing in Virginia - The Neck has a number of different kinds of fish. If you like to fish, you will definitely find that fishing is fun here.

  • Red Fox Habitat - As sneaky as they are, we often catch a glimpse of a red fox, sneaking along a farm field.

  • What Do Deer Eat? - The abundant forests and fields on the Northern Neck VA provide lots of goodies for a deer diet…

  • Chesapeake Bay Oysters - Oysters are coming back in Virginia, and there are some people who even have their own little oyster nurseries, down by their docks…

  • Black Bear Information - While not known to be everywhere on the Northern Neck, black bears have been sighted occasionally in Westmoreland County.

Whether you put out a feeder to attract Virginia wildlife, or you just leave things to chance, you are sure to see some interesting animals in the wild while you are on the Neck.

In addition, if you like to catch your own dinner, and fishing is your love, you will find plenty of fish, crabs and oysters. And you’re sure to have fun catching your own dinner…
