Top Ten Reasons to Retire Northern Neck VA – Part 2
These top ten reasons to retire on the Northern Neck VA should whet your appetite for one of the best places to retire on the East Coast. Affordability and stress free living are just the beginning.
If you have been thinking about where to retire, make sure you consider the advantages of relocating to the Northern Neck! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the advantages of retiring here!
I’m hoping that I’m mentioning some of your best reasons for retiring in a specific place. This list of reasons is the second half of my top ten.
#6 Temperate Climate - If you have lived with ice and snow all winter, you’ll definitely appreciate the weather here. You can be outside almost every single day, year-round, and it’s still pretty comfortable.
There is a long growing season, a long boating season, and some people even fish all year. If you enjoy hiking, you can take advantage of our nature trails, even on most winter days.
Great Blue Herons are a common sight along the water here.
#7 Wild Life Watching - There are so many awesome birds and animals here that it would be hard to list them all. We often see wild turkeys, Great Blue Herons, eagles, ospreys, deer, and even a red fox now and then.
Often we don’t even have to leave our property. In fact, we see eagles and osprey often from our front windows. And it’s not uncommon to hear the squawking of a Great Blue Heron, day or night!
Wine events are often held at wineries along the Chesapeake Wine Trail here.
#8 Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail - It’s so much fun to visit the excellent wineries in this region. In addition to the fine wines that they make, they often have fun wine events, especially during the warmer months.
Blue crabs are just one of the kinds of seafood available here.
#9 Fresh Seafood - If you love eating fresh seafood like I do, you’ll love being able to get some anytime you feel like it!
If you enjoy fishing or crabbing you can catch your own. Or, if you prefer you can purchase fresh seafood at one of the local fish markets or order some at your favorite local restaurant!
Boat parades are fun to see, especially if you’ve never seen one before.
#10 Water Water Everywhere - Last but not least, of my top ten reasons to retire on the Neck is water.
One of the greatest draws to the Neck is our intricate network of streams and rivers, and, of course, the Chesapeake Bay.
While here, you can attend a Blessing of the Fleet (held in the Spring, to bless boats and their crews during the coming season) or a Boat Parade at Halloween (haunted boat parade) or Christmas.
The water provides recreational opportunities for people of all ages, but, even if you don’t enjoy water activities, it is still great to see the beautiful views along the water here. There are miles and miles of beautiful shorelines and beautiful views here.
